June Moon

"Spaced Out"
Space was the theme of the June ScribeDelivery Box.   How perfect is that for this Houston girl?  Check out that Space Shuttle notebook!

(Note:  I do not get any special compensation from them, I just want to pass along an opportunity to support a US/Texas-based company of two people with a great idea.)

We all know the curated monthly box subscriptions are all the rage now -- Paper Pumpkin from Stampin' Up, Art Box, Art Snacks, even dinner.  It reminds me of the National Handcraft Society Craft of the Month Club from the 70's - of which I still have some of the things I made from their small book-sized mailing box.  They were very creative. My Mom belonged, but I would open the box and make the projects.  They were just sitting there.  Remember twice a day mail delivery?!
Who doesn't like getting neat things in the mail and a surprise you know you will like, too!

I've been a Scribe subscriber (haha!) for the past four months and I have to say each one gets even better.  If you like paper products, pens, pencils...you should give them a try.  Also if you like to draw or are an artist you will be very happy with them.   The items they include are perfect and often you can't find them in the stores.  Hello blacklight Gelly Roll pen!  The items encourage portable creativity, too.  I can just slip one of the pads and pens/pencils in my purse and be ready for any unexpected artistic sketching opportunity or to jot down thoughts for life in general or a book.  I've always found that if you have cool tools, you tend to want to use and find ways to use them more.

Check out their website and sign up for the next box opening.  They only get limited amounts of the goodies and often only have a few openings available.

Dr. Wayne Dyer

What an amazing person!  But what a legacy he had and has left for us.

My Dad gave me a copy of this book back in 1980
If he passed Dad's muster, then you knew this guy was the real deal.

His Facebook page is posting these each day

Right now Hay House is offering the chance to watch his movie, "The Shift" for free until September 8.  It's a two-hour movie, which I forgot to mention when I sent the link to a friend, but it goes by so quickly and most certainly will resonate with you, too.  Here is the link --  http://bit.ly/1MZ0ijj or if that doesn't work, click on the movie title.

Also, several of his books in the eBook format are specially priced at $1.99 on Apple http://apple.co/1KIPDt1 Nook http://bit.ly/1NasxNF and Amazon http://amzn.to/RiEQgU  I'm thinking this deal will be good for the month of September, but why wait?  Grab them now!

I also use and enjoy listening to this Moses Code mediation by Dr. Wayne Dyer and James Twyman, "I am - Wishes Fulfilled"   I try to listen to one, or even both of the 21 minute mediations at the beginning of my day or in the afternoon when I need a recharge/reset/recentering.

Introduce or reintroduce yourself and your higher self to Dr. Dyer.  You will be glad to have his guidance, insight and him in your life.

New Year, New Creative Ideas

www.sparkledstamps.com
My über web/computer creative sister (see the Portable Snowman) came up with this cool calendar you can download and print.  She found all these cool and obscure holidays, which could have gone by uncelebrated.

Lots of ideas to pre-empt writer's and crafter's block and open up those creative energy chakras this year.
These would make fun and doable blog challenges, projects for homeschooling, Scouts, preschool, the office. . .themed baking and treats. . .Seasonal avatars for your Facebook and other social media sites.  Even ideas for Random Acts of Kindness.  I'm sure you'll find lots of inspiration and opportunities for smiles throughout the year, too.  Don't let Bacon Day take you by surprise again this year!

And as a special discount to my bloggy friends, she's offering a discount of $3.22 with the Coupon Code:  kent322

Go to her blog website http://sparkledstamps.com/ideas-for-blog-challenges for the calendar and other postings.   Or click here!

Pimp My iPad

The room lighting distorted the screensaver wallpaper color.

Oops!  Took the picture before I added the corner pieces
A very happy repeat customer -- I used DecalGirl to trick out my Nook a couple years ago.  It still gets oohs and aahs, especially when I'm downloading and reading at Barnes & Noble.

This print is called "Vintage Scarlet" in the matte satin finish.  (It's also available in the high gloss finish)  The description is funny -- Pink, feathery leaf trellises curl their way across an aged brown paper background in this classic floral design that reminds us a bit of wallpaper from an old Wild West bordello … or maybe an old sofa.  In real life, it's a pinky red, and more like an olive green/brown.  Great color combination!

I love how the bonus free wallpaper/screensaver design lines up perfectly, and was very surprised to discover there were pieces so  I could also decorate my charger plug!

Like their page on Facebook and Twitter follow these ladies for special deals and discounts.  I was able to score this for 30% off.

One of us!

The March 31 New York Times had an article about how champion golfer Michelle Wie enjoys the creative outlets of sewing, baking and drawing.

"...She sews many of her street clothes and bakes vegan cookies and muffins from her own recipes ...the sewing machine, the sketchpad, the kitchen; these are Wie's escapes..."

In fact, here's her blog with some of her creations - A Black Flamingo She's quite good at everything she does!

Free Amy Butler Patterns - Updated Post

Last year, before Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine and website folded, she had a link to free Amy Butler patterns. I mentioned it in my January 3, 2009 post.

I've been noticing my blog gets quite a few Google hits looking for "Free Amy Butler Patterns" and just checked the links, only to discover they are no longer active.

However, I did find a current link for 22 (!) free Amy Butler patterns and would like to update my blog to include them. Hopefully everyone will get redirected to the new site. And do it now, before these disappear, too.

Sexy Hexy Love Quilt - updated instructions!
Sash with Beaded Fringe (from Amy's book, In Stitches)

Thanks for reading, and I hope you plan a return visit back to The House of Kent!

Cyber Monday Coupon Codes

Psst! Here's a few Cyber Monday coupon codes to make your bargain shopping even better. I'll update as I find them in my email box. Happy shopping!

The Lingerie Store - 20% off - rd249
http://www.thelingeriestoreusa.com/
What I like about this Yahoo-affiliated store is attentive customer services - lots of emails to keep you posted on your order....and...no state tax - at least in Texas. That saves us an additional 8.25%. Free shipping if your order is $50 and over.

FragranceNet.com - 15% off - cymn9
http://www.fragrancenet.com/
Another favorite site. Definitely Google and grab your calculator for other coupons, the 15% may or may not be your best deal. They often have $10 or $15 off purchases over a certain amount, usually $35. Also free shipping kicks in at $70. It's worth the extra math effort for different savings scenarios.

Hot Patterns - 20% off - THANKS
http://www.hotpatterns.com/
This may be your shoppertunity to finally try a Hot Pattern or stock up on those you've been eyeing.

QVC.com is also offering free shipping and handling on over 10,000 items. I figure that's probably their entire website.

Bath and Body Works - 25% off and only $5.95 shipping on your entire online order - CYBERMONDAY
http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/

Who are these people and what are they doing here?

As you can obviously tell, I have a rather eclectic group of friends and fellow bloggers in the right alley. I thought each week on Sunday I would randomly showcase one from the list and why they are there. I love to discover new blogs, and I think you will enjoy the introduction for new places to visit in Bloggy Land.

This week - Mad About Martha A blog devoted to everything Martha. I love the links to other Martha blogs, news about her upcoming books, television show, crafts, recipes tried from Everyday Food and more. If you need a little Martha inspirational boost, this is the blog to cheer you on.

Barnes and Noble haul - Part 2

Why I really went to BN, since Jo-Ann's is not carrying the March issue of Mark Lipinski's Quilter's Home - and yes, it was sealed. With all the hoopla on the Web, I wanted to make sure I got a copy. Not because of the article on Page 24, but I like the magazine anyways and didn't want to miss an issue.

Then I found the new "Apron*ology" from the publishers of Belle Armoire and Somerset Studio. A 20% off coupon + 10% membership card discount, helped bring down the price down considerably. Ouch when a magazine has a price point of a book! I found a really good, consistent website that always has current BN store coupons, and other good coupon codes, too.

This week - Notes From the Cookie Jar

I discovered Karen's blog when I was searching for those who had tried the Giant Sugar Cookies from of the April 2007 issue Martha Stewart Everyday Food. A Canadian, she leads an interesting life of cooking, crafting and raising her family. And her food photos are spectacular!
